We all sometimes feel our nerves get the better of us every now and again, whether it is on a show day, handling a new horse, recovering from a fall or remembering past experiences. Sometimes we brush them off and get on with our day, but sometimes they can build and build causing anxiety which will then be picked up by our horse, causing them to wonder what the danger is.
If you feel your nerves coming on, sometimes just taking five minutes can help you relax and collect your thoughts, lower your heart rate, improve your mood, and take control of the situation in hand.
How to take 5?
Taking 5 minutes somewhere quiet, shutting your eyes and focusing on your breathing. Imagine how you would like the situation to unfold, imagining a positive outcome. Once you feel that you have relaxed, you may feel a little different and a bit more positive to the situation that made you feel nervous. Meditation exercises are a great way to help relax and focus your mind, helping you stay calmer.
